About

Sea Stacks is the creation of Davy Berryman; combining orchestral instrumentations to create wind and string-strafed indie music that produces spine-tingling moments of beauty interwoven with a distinctly dark, sinister tone of lyrics.

Starting with just a handful of songs and a studio, Davy set out with only one rule, mostly unbroken: that there would be no guitars or pianos used.

In April 2013 Sea Stacks released their first single ‘The High Tide'. The follow up to this ‘Numb’ came in Sept 2013. The new single, 'Glassy-Eyed', is due 7th April 2014.

Live, Sea Stacks perform as an eight-piece, featuring string-quartet, double bass, flute, drums and a harmonium.

We had a lovely time last week in Cardiff. Here’s a handful of photos (courtesy of Jake) from our set.

Thanks to everyone that came and chatted to us afterwards. On to LodeStar this Sunday now!

We’re delighted to add another festival this month, particularly as it will be our first time performing outside of England as we head over to Cardiff.
We will be headlining the Saturday night at Four Bars as part of Hub Festival Cardiff.
For more info head over to their Facebook page here and for tickets (£15 weekend, £10 day) head to SeeTickets
Also playing the festival will be our good friends Jilk (5.50pm, Sat 23rd at The Moon Club) and Scriber.

So on the face of it, it seems to have been a quiet month for Sea Stacks. No gigs, no new music, and little noise being made on social media. But in truth, everything is bubbling away nicely.

I’ve locked myself away to work on new music, developing a whole hoard of songs that I’ve written in the past year, but not had the time to record. Unfortunately for you all, none of it is ready just yet, and, as I’ve been a bit poor on the photography front, all I’ve currently got to show for it is a photo of the wonderful oboist Ben Marshall (plus one of Ben and Jin’s rather unphotogenic kittens), and a super-exciting picture of the drum kit setup from last weekend…. Yeah!

However, alongside this I’ve been working on a new spin-off project, involving us and others doing some acoustic sessions (see the beautifully sunny picture above).  More on that in the near future. Also, I may (or may not) let you have a listen to some ambient remixing of the old songs that I’ve been playing around with in my spare time. We’ll see what happens.

Anyway, if you’ve read this far, well done! For now, please sit tight and continue to enjoy my music. Hopefully I will see you at a gig very soon (see our ‘Live’ section for more dates) and I’ll give you all something to listen to very soon, I promise.

As they say, all good things come to those who wait!

We’ve just added a couple of live videos from our Glassy-Eyed single launch gig at Heath Street Baptist Church. Currently we have Glassy-Eyed and (yet to be released) Human Heat up, with more to follow as soon as they’re ready.

Delighted to release the video to Glassy-Eyed. It’s been a month of slogging away by the team to get the vast amounts of special effects done, but the wait was so definitely worth it!

Thanks to all involved. Please share the video round too!

A seemingly quiet month has passed since my last post, but it’s been full steam ahead for us!

The next single is ready, the video is nearly there and looking fantastic (see photos above). Not long now!

In the mean time, Jay and I got into the studio last week and recorded a new song. It’s a scaled-back track, just cello, harmonium and voice. We really like it and will be putting it up for free download next week.

Gig news:

We won’t be gigging too often this year as time constraints for us all mean getting together regularly is hard, but we’re delighted to say we’ll be playing at the Old Queen’s Head, Angel on March 5th.

Sneaky peak at new songs

Tomorrow we’ll be sending out a demo of some of the new songs we’ve been working on.
